In South Africa we have this oh so goodness garlic braai bread that we love putting on the fire as a starter when you are having friends over for a braai. My garlic bread is fast and just enough for everyone to enjoy to keep the happiness flowing and you either have the choice of putting it on the braai or to bake in the oven.
Ingredients:
300g all purpose flour, to make it healthy simply replace the normal flour with almond flour. Keep some to the side as well.
2 x Tbsp of yeast
3 x Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, and also keep some to the side
200ml normal water, no beed for it to be hot or chilled, room temperature is perfect
30ml unsalted butter
Himalayan pink salt, to taste
4 x garlic cloves, diced
Roughly about on cup of cheese
Italian parsley
Method:
In a stand mixer add in your flour, yeast, extra virgin olive oil, salt and about 50ml of water. On low speed with your dough hook attached add the remainder of your water.
Once nice and sticky remove from your stand mixer on to a floured surface and kneed your dough until nice and smooth and no longer sticky.
Add in the fridge for round about 1hour and 30 minutes or until the dough has doubled in size.
Once ready pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees. On a floured surface return your dough and shape into a big sausage shape form.
Once done cut 8 even slices (note not all the way through) and fill each gap with garlic, butter and cheese. Once done, sprinkle over your Italian Parsley and wrap in tin fool.
Pop in the oven for roughly 35 minutes, and remove the tin foil and girl for another 10 minutes or until golden goodness.
Serve with home made basil pesto, or a small cup of olive oil, dukah and balsamic vinegar.
